About Course

With our perfect religion being so vast, finding the best place to start may seem daunting. Finding time throughout a busy day can sometimes compound this issue. The best approach would be to have a structured course, focused on Quran, Hadith, and our rich Islamic history in a bite-sized format that’s easy to follow.

By the Mercy of الله we are trying to achieve this with Light Upon Light, our weekly Islamic Course. Light Upon Light has three short lessons every week and is based on the most profound works of some of the best scholars of Islam. Light Upon Light is presented to students of all levels and is conducted via zoom so you can learn in the comfort of your home, even with friends and family.

The course is month to month, it can be cancelled at anytime, no strings attached.

Tafseer

This class aims to introduce the audience to an amazing tafseer that is only available in the Arabic language, the content will be delivered in the English language where we will categorically go through the verses and discuss the different aspects and meanings which the Imam has mentioned in his tafseer. The verses which will be covered in this tafseer are all those where Allah calls out to the believers;

A Call to the Believers – Current (available to view)

(يأيها الذين آمنوا )
“Oh you who believe….”

There are 89 such verses in the Quran which will all be covered in these lessons.

Abdullah Ibn Masud the great companion of the Messenger of Allah said: “When you hear Allah say: ‘Oh you who believe’, you should listen carefully to His words, for they are about something good that He is commanding, or something evil that He is forbidding”.

Tafseer of Juz Amma – Begins ( 06 August 2024)

The last juz of the Holy Quran is one that all of us have memorized, be delving into the meanings of this juz through our well structured tafseer course one can only bring a sweetness to their Salaah. The chapters in this juz of the Quran are meccan, hence concentrating on the elements of spiritualty of the heart by creating an attachment to the events of the Hereafter.

Hadeeth

The prophetic sayings of the Messenger of Allah are something that every believer who loves the Messenger of Allah should aspire to learn and understand.

The Forty Hadeeth of Imam Al Nawawi – Completed (available to view)

In this course we will cover the famous collection of Imam Al Nawawi. These 40 hadeeth which were selected by the Imam himself form the basis and are a primal source for the principals of religion. Many have said that this selection of 40 hadeeth encompass the ideals of Islam.

The Messenger of Allah said: “Whoever of my nation memorizes 40 hadeeth concerning their religion, they will be sent forth on the Day of Judgement in the company of the jurists and the scholars”.

Islamic History

Man in his psychological reactions will always be consistent, irrespective of the time or place, hence it is vital that we look at those before us to understand how we will react in similar situations.

Allah says in the Quran:
“So relate the stories that perhaps they will give thought.”
[Surah 6:187]

The importance of learning our history is that we may take lessons from those who erred and take examples from those who were successful.

In these lessons, we will cover the history of mankind, from the creation of Adam until the present day. The relied upon guide for this series will be Ibn Kathir’s Al Bidayah Wa Al Nihaya.

About the Instructor

Sheikh Muhammad Kalla was born in Polokwane, South Africa. He memorized the Holy Quran while still at school under Moulana Muhammad Ilyaas Patel.

He completed school in 2007 and was accepted at the Islamic University of Madinah in the period 2010/2011.

⚖️ He completed his Diploma in Arabic as well as a BA in Islamic Law from the faculty of Shariah. He has also studied privately under numerous scholars in Madinah as well as attaining an Ijazah from the Haraam in the narration of Hafs ān Asim.

Course Content

TAFSEER – A Call to the Believers in the Noble Quran (يا أيها الذين آمنوا) – Current
